Barbi Marković

Barbi Marković was born in Belgrade in 1980. She studied German Literature and has lived in Vienna since 2006. In 2011-12 she was the city of Graz’s writer in residence. In 2009, Marković’s created a sensation with her Thomas Bernhard remix novel Ausgehen (Going Out). In 2016, her award-winning novel Superheldinnen (Superheroines) appeared. In 2017, Barbi Marković read at the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize competition.
She has published numerous short stories, theater plays, and radio plays. In 2021, Residenz Verlag published her novel Die verschissene Zeit (The Shitty Time). In her most recent book, Minihorror (Minnie-Horror), Barbi Marković tells the story of Minnie and Mickey and their adventures in everyday urban life. Minnie and Mickey are not from here, but they try hard to belong and to do everything right. The novel won the 2024 Leipzig Book Fair Prize and all who have read it know why: it is both roguish and artistic. The question of how to cope with the present is provided with striking literary answers.
